Viennese Tarts


  • 1 cup sifted flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/3 cup shortening

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese

  • Marmalade or jam


  • Sift together flour and salt.
  • Cut or rub in shortening. Add cream cheese and mix well.
  • Form into smooth ball, chill for 30 minutes or longer.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
  • Roll out onto lightly floured pastry cloth and cut into 3 inch squares.
  • Put a teaspoon of tart marmalade or jam in the center of each square. Pinch all edges together to hold the filling.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes or until browned.

Note: Makes about 2 dozen tarts.
